It Works on Your Machine. What About Theirs?

Make compatibility claims as specific as the evidence.

The page works in the browser the agent happened to open. That is a useful observation. It is not a compatibility matrix.

/carbon-compatibility focuses on differences across relevant browsers, devices, input modes, operating systems, dependencies, and older contracts.

Choose the differences that matter

A booking form may behave correctly with a mouse on a wide screen but become awkward with touch and a mobile keyboard. A date field may produce a different representation in another browser. A newer client may send a value an older server cannot understand.

CARBON uses the product and change to choose a meaningful matrix. It can inspect responsive behavior and exercise available environments, then associate findings with the exact conditions tested.

The word “available” matters. Resizing Chromium to a phone width is useful layout testing. It is not evidence that the app works in Safari on a physical iPhone. A missing browser must remain an untested environment.

Make the request concrete

/carbon-compatibility test the booking flow across installed browsers and touch-sized layouts; distinguish emulation from real-device evidence

The report should make the differences understandable: the same task, the tested configurations, where behavior diverged, and what to verify after a fix.

You do not need every theoretical combination before learning something useful. You do need to stop saying “cross-platform tested” when the evidence is one browser at one width.

AI can reduce the effort of investigating differences. It cannot create coverage for an environment it never exercised.

Install CARBON at testers.ai/carbon for a supported coding agent such as Claude, Codex, or Cursor.
